Wet Coast Burlesque has asked me back once again to capture their monthly show. While I have been shooting video for performers up to this stage, this month I had the opportunity to capture the show in stills! While videography got me in the door in this community, it’s really photography where my heart sings. When shooting event photography, specifically performance photography, learning the movement and how to anticipate key action in performances based on music and flow has been a challenge. It’s exhilarating! Getting home to sort through the thousands of photos to pick out images that are clear and demonstrate the artistry of the performers on stage is so exciting.
This month’s theme to Wet Coast Burlesque was Send Newbs! This theme focuses on either new performers or new acts from experienced performers. This night is about celebrating growth and giving space to try new things. Victoria has an excellent pool of talent to choose from, specifically because of Rosie Bitts. Considered the Mama of Burlesque in Victoria, Rosie conducts classes in neo-burlesque, tantra, and body acceptance. Running 3 times a year, there are plenty of fresh faces looking to join the community at large.
The performers at Send Newbs were Al Cabone, Atomic Ember, Aurora Noire, Harlie Von Shaft, Scarlet Bitch, Hazel Valentine, Ginger Vicious, Sophie Luscious, Honey Suckle, Pink Von Deep, Faeramone Noir and Tommy Foxglove.
